Social Media Basics
Age Group
Starting early with social media—ideally in middle school or early high school—gives softball players time to build a consistent, authentic presence that showcases their skills, character, and growth. Platforms like Instagram, Twitter (X), and YouTube are key for sharing highlights, connecting with coaches, and standing out in the recruiting process.

In today’s competitive recruiting landscape, having talent on the field isn’t always enough—visibility is key. For softball players aiming to play at the next level, building a strong social media presence can be a game-changer. It’s not just about sharing stats or highlight reels; it’s about creating a personal brand that tells a story, showcases work ethic, and keeps them on the radar of coaches and recruiters. With the right strategy, social media becomes more than just a platform—it becomes a digital resume and a powerful tool to stand out in a crowded field.
Social Media Platforms:
Facebook - Team Profile:
Target Audience - Parents/Family/Friends/Prospective Players Parents
Colleges aren't using this medium to scout players, but it's still essential to accommodate parents since they cover the expenses.
Instagram - Team/Player Profile:
Target Audience - This is typically where players engage and post the most, and some colleges utilize this platform but it's secondary to X.
X (Formerly known at Twitter):
This is the most commonly used platform used by College coaches for scouting players.
When should players create their social media accounts?

Middle School
Create Social Media Accounts (8th grade), and begin growing a following by liking, commenting, and following other players, etc.
Having a social media account offers little advantage if a player keeps their profile private. All profiles should be public.
If parents worry about social media access, they should manage the account. However, not being on social media makes it harder to catch the attention of coaches.
Advise players to choose a handle that closely matches their name to make it easier for coaches to find them.
Freshmen
During their freshman year, players should be active on social media (X), regularly posting video clips, schedules, and other content.
